In honour of the one and only John Peel, Black Cactus have recorded an adapted
version of a classic song by Dolly Parton. With blues vocals reminiscent
of Nick Cave and Howling Wolf, slide guitar and charango the song embodies
what John Peel meant to the band.
Although noone can take the place of John Peel we can all make ourselves
better people by taking on board some of the things he said and the way
he lived his life. This song was written, recorded and mixed this week
in a spontaneous burst of creativity that we hope would do John proud.
Black Cactus performed and filmed the song live at John Peel Night on Thurs
12 Oct. Thanks to Toby and Chris for recording and editing the footage.
Black Cactus - John Peel
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
I'm beggin of you please to play my band
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
Please play them just because you can
Our demo is beyond compare,
With blazing solos on guitar
With silky voice and drums of beats unreal.
If you dont mind we'd like to ring
to talk about our gigs in spring
We need to get a record deal John Peel
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
I'm beggin of you please to play my band
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
Please play them just because you can
I stay up late, I can not sleep
I need to hear my music creep
Into the sessions of John Peel
And I can easily understand
How truth always sounds so bland
When you're away on holiday John Peel
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
I'm beggin of you please to play my band
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
Please play them just because you can
You could play your choice of bands
For me there's only just one man
to help me get signed, get a record deal
I'm glad I've sent my tunes to you
My happiness depends on you
Whatever you decide to play John Peel
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
I'm beggin of you please to play my band
John Peel, John Peel, John Peel, John Peel
Please play them just because you can
