UNPLUGGED IN THE PARK HOTEL - 23 Nov 06

If you missed this Thursday's Unplugged Night you must either be a hermit living in the outer reaches of Wivenhoe Woods or trapped at the bottom of a well. It seemed like most of Wivenhoe was in the pub so no need to send out a search party.

Adrian Nation was the main guest for the evening and he showed why he is one of the leading players on the folk scene at the moment. He lived up to his reputation for inspiring, contemporary folk music and left the crowd breathless. Songs from his current and new album enthralled the Park Hotel.

And just when you thought things couldn't get any better Adrian dragged Tim Witnell out of the crowd. The combination of the area's finest folk players was outstanding. The atmosphere of 2 guitars playing separate bass, chord and melody lines interweaving into each other was awe-inspiring.

And the good news is that this duo, otherwise known as Six Feet Above, have agreed to play again in early 2007. Now there's a reason to look forward to next year.

There was as usual the finest mix of local talent up on the Open Stage. Thanks for everyone who played, and especially to Ru for trying to solve the stage riddle and for the late performance.

First off the blocks was Mitch. Plans of a band are brewing
so keep an eye out at the next night.

Aron and Andy played a mix of covers and original songs.

Miranda (of Club Crumpet fame) read out some of her poetry.
She's the first to lead the spoken word scene at the Unplugged Nights and we're hoping others will follow.

The pub was packed to see local guitarist Adrian Nation play.

Adrian lived up to expectations with a fantastic set.

Adrian's set included songs from both his current album and
the planned new album.

Adrian was joined by his former teacher Tim Witnell.
Someone was heard commenting "It sounded like Adrian was playing 2 guitars at once, now there's 4 guitars...!"

Adrian and Tim have played together before under the name of Six Feet Above. They have agreed to rekindle their duo for an Unplugged Night in 2007. If you missed this night, you don't want to miss the return of this incredible duo.

Phil, half of Wivenhoe's hidden secret 3's a Crowd, took the late shift with a selection of covers.

Iain, Mr Dependable on the drums, played a late set of original songs from his new album.
