UNPLUGGED IN THE PARK HOTEL - 12 July 07

In the heat of an English mid-summer (joke!), with 3 of the best local festivals happening on the same weekend, we managed to get one of Colchester's rising stars to play a warmup set at the Park Hotel before she went to play at 2 out of the 3.

If you haven't heard of Laura Younger I'm sure you soon will. At the tender age of 18, she showed performance and song writing skills of a far more wisened player. Drawing on her experiences of a teenager finding her feet in the world, Laura's songs battle and beat their way through the night. Its an angst that is focused into intelligent lyrics, accompanied by a playing style already well advanced from what she recorded on her first album.

She has compared herself to the likes of KT Tunstall and Amy Winehouse, but I would have to disagree with that as I'm not that keen on them, but I did really her. And as she sold out of all the CDs she brought with her, I think the rest of the audience rather liked it too.

As always our main act was accompanied by the open mic stylings of local guitarists and musicians. Thanks to Jimmy for the jam session early on.
